Overstimulation Symptoms
- Difficulty focusing due to competing sensory input - Extreme irritability - Restlessness and discomfort - Urge to cover your ears or shield your eyes from sensory input - Feeling overly excited or “wound up” - Stress, fear, or anxiety about your surroundings - Higher levels than usual of sensitivity to textures, fabrics, clothing tags, or other things that may rub against skin

- Loud noises or music - Crowded spaces - Emotionally intense people or groups - Drastic environmental changes (temperature, light, etc.) - Unexpected or unwanted physical contact (hugs, etc.) - Heavy traffic - Tactile triggers (scratchy or uncomfortable clothing, etc.) - Intense smells

- Identify your triggers - Gradually expose yourself to triggers - Use relaxation and mindfulness to calm down - Focus your full attention on one thing - Find a quiet place to calm down - Manage your stress with regular self-care - Declutter and organize your surroundings - Be physically active to channel restless energy - Get support from others - Find sensory tools to filter out stimuli
